Space Technology for Monitoring Projects
The Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) proposes to monitor the progress of various developmental projects in the North East region through satellite images. The monitoring of various developmental projects is proposed through a GIS cell to be established in the NEC Secretariat, in consultation with North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) located at Umiam, Meghalaya. The NESAC is a registered society set up in September, 2000 as a joint initiative of Department of Space (DoS) and NEC for providing remote sensing based natural resource information for application in the areas of education, healthcare, disaster management support and developmental communications. NESAC is headed by the MoS(IC), M/o DoNER in his capacity as Chairman, NEC, with representatives from Department of Space, the Governments of North Eastern States and the academia from NER. The funding of the NESAC Society is done through Grants-in-aid from DoS and NEC on 50:50 basis.

This was stated by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh in written reply to a question by Shri Gajanan Kirtikar, Kunwar Haribansh Singh, Shri Bidyut Baran Mahato, Shri Ashok Shankarrao Chavan, Shri S.R.
