Workshop of Nodal Officers of Election Expenditure Monitoring of Poll –going states 


The Election Commission of India today organized a workshop of Nodal Officers of Election Expenditure Monitoring of the five poll-going states viz. Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry. The participants consisted of Nodal Officers of State CEO office in-charge of Expenditure Monitoring, Police Nodal Officer and Nodal Officers from Income Tax Department and State Excise Department. These officers who are senior functionaries in their Departments in the respective states gave presentations and the Commission made detailed review of the preparedness relating to control of money power in the forthcoming elections. 

Dr. Nasim Zaidi, Chief Election Commissioner of India and Election Commissioners Shri AK Joti and Shri O P Rawat addressed the participants and emphasized that the Commission is committed to take all necessary steps to curb the abuse of money power in the forthcoming elections and directed the officers not to leave any stone unturned for the same. 

There was experience sharing during the meeting by Nodal officers who had supervised Expenditure Monitoring in the General elections to Bihar Legislative Assembly, 2015 and in the Lok Sabha, 2014. 

The aim of the workshop was to find out ways and means for strict expenditure monitoring mechanism and form innovative ideas to curb the menace of illegal money during the election campaigning. There was intensive discussion on the new and innovative methods being adopted by the Commission in the forthcoming elections on expenditure monitoring. This is a further step in Election Commission of India’s commitment towards conducting free, fair and transparent elections.

General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam, 2016 – Revised Schedule for Second Phase of Election – Regarding. 


                        The Election Commission of India vide its Press Note ECI/PN/16/2016, dated 4th March, 2016 has announced General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam, 2016 wherein the last date of making nominations for the second phase has been scheduled as 21st March, 2016.
2.                     The Commission vide its Press Note ECI/PN/15/2016, dated 24th February, 2016 has already announced Biennial Elections to the Council of States from six States including Assam for which, the date of poll is as 21st March, 2016.
3.                     The Commission has received request seeking modification of the schedule for the second phase of the General Election in Assam so that the date of poll of Biennial Election to the Council of States does not collide with said last date of making nominations.   On the due consideration of the matter, the Commission has decided to slightly modify some of the dates for the second phase of the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam whereby there is a change in the date of notification, last date of making nomination and date of scrutiny.  The remaining stages of Election Process i.e. last date of withdrawal of candidatures, date of poll and date of counting remain unchanged.  The revised schedule is as under:


1 Date of Notification 15.03.2016 (Tuesday)(Instead of 14.03.2016)

2 Last date of making Nominations 22.03.2016 (Tuesday) (Instead of 21.03.2016)

3 Date of Scrutiny 24.03.2016 (Thursday) (Instead of 22.03.2016)

4 Last date of withdrawal 26.03.2016 (Saturday) (No Change)

5 Date of Poll 11.04.2016 (Monday)  (No Change)

6 Date of Counting 19.05.2016 (Thursday) (No Change)

7 Date before which the election shall be completed  21.05.2016 (Saturday) (No Change)
