High Level Delegation from Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Calls on Shri Anant Geete 

A high level delegation from Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia led by Ms. Demitu Hambisa, Minister of Public Enterprises called on Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Shri Anant Geete today here in New Delhi. Besides the Minister, the delegation included 2 state Ministers namely Mr. Beyene Gebremeskael and Mr. Tolesa Degefa and three senior officials from the said Ministry. 


Shri Anant Geete after welcoming the Ethiopian Minister of Public Enterprises and her delegation, informed briefly of the important role played by the public sector in India towards its economic development by way of infrastructure development, employment generation and development of backward regions and sections of people. He assured them of all cooperation in sharing the Indian experiences so that the public sector in Ethiopia can learn from them and play a similar role in Ethiopia’s economic development. 

Ms. Demitu Hambisa, Minister of Public Enterprises informed that the public enterprises in her country were brought under one newly created Ministry of Public Enterprises in order to increase the role of public enterprises in Ethiopia while encouraging the private sector. Government of Ethiopia proposes to strengthen its public enterprises by having sound corporate governance and finance system by sharing experiences with countries which have better experience in managing their public enterprises. She sought India’s assistance by way of signing an agreement between her Ministry and the Department of Public Enterprises in India. The Indian Minister, Shri Anant Geete assured that India would extend all help and cooperation to Ethiopia in strengthening its public sector and requested the Ethiopian Minister to take up the matter through the Ministry of External Affairs for signing a bilateral agreement for cooperation in the field of public sector. 

Prior to this meeting with Shri Geete, the Delegation was apprised in the morning about (i) CPSEs in India and their performance; and (ii) the role and activities of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) by the Secretary and other senior officials of the DPE. During its 2-day visit to India from March 14-15, 2016, the delegation will interact with the officials of three CPSEs viz. ONGC Limited, Cement Corporation of India Ltd (CCI) and National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC).

Government of Delhi to submit a memorandum as per the norms and to seek relief for the farmers- Radha Mohan Singh 


In view of the problems being faced by the farmers of Delhi, the Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh has directed that a letter be sent to the Government of Delhi asking them to submit a memorandum as per the norms and to seek relief for the farmers. 

Delhi State BJP and the members of the Parliament from Delhi today submitted a memorandum to Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh to explore the possibility of a relief package for the farmers of Delhi who have lost winter crop due to the untimely rains in March 2016.
